recent work - 2020-2021
In her recent work, Julia Genet explores the notion of reality perception through portraits whose legibility has been deliberately obstructed in order to question our senses, and more specifically the view, exterior messenger and main bearer of the outside world.
This altered vision of human face familiar shape is also a transposition of the artist's experience - emotionally, spiritually and physically - of how her eyesight gradually changes as a result of a brain tumor.
Questioning reality
If reality, which exists independently of the subject and which is not the product of thought, is perceived only and mainly through sight, which however can vary, can mislead us, how can we be able to apprehend the real, to rely on it ?
These hybrid works, mixing painting and photography, sort of sublimation of the author's changing vision, are an emancipation proposal from the reign of the 5 classical senses on the sensitive world bearings.
